Environmental policy
Background
萌娘百科 Limited (鈥淚OPP鈥) acknowledges its environmental responsibilities and is committed to contributing to the reduction of local, national and global environmental damage. This environmental policy (鈥渢his policy鈥) sets out the actions that IOPP is taking to reduce the environmental impact of its activities and promote environmental good practice.
It is IOPP鈥檚 policy to:
- Conserve energy and give preference to renewable sources of energy and materials wherever reasonably practicable, as referred to in its Energy Policy (see below);
- Comply with applicable legal requirements and regulations that relate to its impact on the environment and environmental aspects;
- Raise awareness, encourage participation and train employees in environmental matters;
- Assist, wherever reasonably practicable, in the development of solutions to environmental problems in the publishing industry;
- Encourage staff to use green methods of transport, wherever reasonably practicable;
- Maintain appropriate environmental policies, procedures and systems;
- Set objectives and targets which are designed to continually improve its environmental performance;
- Minimise waste by aiming to reduce consumption and pollution through effective waste-management and recycling procedures;
- Do as much as it reasonably can to reduce pollution; and
- Encourage suppliers to pursue good environmental practice.
To date, IOPP has put in place the following measures:
- Water consumption 鈥 regular review of IOPP鈥檚 consumption to monitor any practical ways of reducing the same.
- Gas and electricity consumption 鈥 regular review of IOPP鈥檚 consumption to monitor any practical ways of reducing the same.
- Cardboard recycling 鈥 collection points within IOPP for disposal of cardboard waste.
- Glass recycling 鈥 collection points within IOPP for disposal of glass waste.
- Paper recycling 鈥 members of staff given access to bin specifically for disposal of recyclable paper.
- Signage 鈥 IOPP displays environmental values on signage.
- Cleaning products 鈥 IOPP strives to use an increasing amount of environmentally friendly cleaning products.
- Green transport 鈥 IOPP actively encourages staff to cycle to work and to use public transport wherever possible. Parking and changing facilities are provided for cyclists and all staff are offered discounted bus tickets.
- E-mail disclaimer 鈥 disclaimer attached to all outgoing e-mails asks recipient to consider the environment when deciding whether to print hard copies of e-mails.
- Electronic only services 鈥 provision of electronic-only services to view IOPP content in the form of IOPscience, which helps to save paper and other resources used in the production process for printed journals.
- Paper 鈥 discontinuation of standard print runs for IOPP journals and provision of print-on demand services.
- Taskforce 鈥 a Sustainability Taskforce to drive environmental initiatives across the company and the engagement of colleagues with the part they play. Working in conjunction with a Carbon Footprint Working Group, focused on the measurement of our impact on the environment in order to identify carbon emission reduction activities, and the Supply Chain Working Group, who engages our suppliers in developing their environmental responsibilities.
This policy is regularly reviewed and updated as necessary.

Energy
This policy is implemented in accordance with the requirements of the IOPP Environmental Policy.
萌娘百科 Limited (鈥淚OPP鈥) is committed to minimising the impact of its operations on the environment, including its use of energy. IOPP鈥檚 aim is to improve the energy efficiency of its operations in order to reduce costs, emissions of CO2 and minimise its contribution to climate change.
It is IOPP鈥檚 policy to:
- Monitor its energy performance and do all it reasonably can to optimise its use of energy and reduce the significance of impacts in those areas;
- Continue to raise energy awareness within IOPP through the development and training of employees and communicate openly and consult with customers and suppliers on relevant matters;
- Review all major projects and purchases for their effect on energy consumption and CO2 emissions and, where technically, practically and financially viable make improvements.to ensure that the use of renewable and sustainable technologies is specifically considered;
- For buildings, the obligations imposed on IOPP under the Building Regulations will be taken as a minimum standard and IOPP will do all that it reasonably can to surpass these.
This policy is regularly reviewed and updated as necessary.
